i'm on the market for new skates, and i saw the Salomon Pilot 9's were marked down considerably but i've never had any experience with these "microbearings" before. I've heard that you can't take them apart and clean them or anything, so they're fast, but unservicable. I pretty exclusively skate on streets, sidewalks, and other fairly unclean surfaces so i was a little worried hearing that. Anyone have experience with both or any light to shed on this?

They are tougher to service just because they are smaller, but not impossible.

Bearings really don't need much work to them at all however. Most don't even bother to service their bearings as they are quite durable unless skating in puddles or walking in dirt. If like me, I just skate skate skate and then when one or two start to slow, I pay the $30 for a new set. I don't have to buy bearings very often. I'd say I average less than one set a year. Maybe every 9 mths or so...

I wouldn't worry about the micro bearings. Great skate, great bearings.
