Hello,

I recently purchased some new bearings and wheels. From what I have read, I could also get an increase in performance by installing an Axle/Hop-Up Kit. Seems like a cheap and easy improvement. So I was hoping that someone could offer some advice because I have a few questions and there does not seem to be very much info on internet. You will have to excuse me if this is simple stuff that I am just not understanding.

I guess I will first describe my situation. I have an older pair of Salomon's 2003 Preface fitness skates. 608 bearing, and the current/stock axle is 8mm steel axle with aluminum spacer. I skate for fun but I like to go fast.

So my first question, is there truly a benefit to be realized if I switch my current axle and spacer to an Aluminum Axle/Hop-Up Kit?

There appears to be two different types on the market. The first involves a threaded spacer that you attach to your frame with two independent screws. The second is a spacer that has an axle similar to my current one, only smaller, that goes through the spacer and attaches to the frame. Is one better than the other? To me it seems like the threaded may pose problems when trying to remove the wheel, because of independent screws? However in all of the product descriptions I have read it sounds like the threaded spacer is the better option for performance?

Now this may be a dumb question but I am going to ask because I am not 100%. With an Axle/Hop-Up Kit, the spacer appears to be much longer than normal spacers. So with an Axle/Hop-Up Kit the bearing will actually sit on this long spacer instead of sitting on the axle like my current setup?

I keep reading that an Axle/Hop-Up Kit reduces compression of the bearing when you tighten the wheel, is this true? I just don't see how this could be, maybe I am missing something.

Again, thank you for your patience and thank you in advance to anyone who may be able to help me.
