I am in the market for some new skates, and can't decide between Rollerblade Astro 50 and some of the K2 skates, like the Soul 7 or Moto. I am not too experienced, and most of my skating will be on city streets and sidewalks, and hopefully some paved bike paths. These skates seemed like the best choices in the $150 range with 80mm wheels. Not sure I want hi-lo setup, as I don't understand the advantages. I could spend a little more if there was a better choice under $200. Please advise.
Thanks,
Bob D.

Fitness skates are almost identical to recreational skates, but they are higher quality and designed for traveling over longer distances. Two of the top fitness inline skates, according to Kathie Fry of SkateLog.com, include the K2 Mod-line of skates and the Rollerblade Lightning series. Both types offer increased durability over recreational skates and higher top-speed potential. A good fitness skate will run $200 or more.

I think if you are going over streets & bkie paths I'd go for an 84mm wheel & because I like a firm hold & high cuffed boots personally I like the RB crossfire (mens) or the womens equivilant which I cant remember off hand.
Just a thought

A lot of skates under $200 these days. Moto 84 BOA a great one that is big enough to get over cracks and bumps easy without being too large a wheel.
Under $100 even.
Some of the post are old and looks like I missed them, but if any others interested..;
A fitness skate or cross training skate will have a bit better qualities to construction-wise (liners, frames, bearings, boots) and a bit more wheel size. Better training basically. Using for a main source of excersize and logging some miles.
A recreational skate will likely be a smaller wheel size focusing on control and stabiilty. May have composite frames, some have aluminum. Great for shorter skates and highly maneuverable with smaller wheel size.
