Hi,

I just purchased a play around pair of speed skates to see if I may like them. I do like the skates, but am already thinking of upgrading to better bearings and wheels. The problem I am having with one of the skates is trying to get the screws out. When I researched the model, it mentioned th use of the threadlock apoxy blue material and I was wondering, aside from strength, is there anything that would loosen this? I have had some of the toughest guys take a crack at getting the screws off!

Thanks! :)

Unless they used the Red stuff, or they were cross-threaded, there shouldn't be any problems loosening the bolts. Blue threadlock is semi-permanent & only fills in the gaps that would normaly be occupied by air. Red threadlock on the other hand is "Permanent" & has a glue agent added to it.

Both are usually removeable with a wrench, though the red is noticeably more difficult to loosen.

I haven't found any solvents that are effective with dried threadlocker. If you cannot loosen them by hand, try heating the threads. Use a soldering iron (without solder) held against the threaded end of the axle bolt for about 10-20 seconds.

I agree with eveything said above.

After that try tapping the frame a million times with a hammer near the thread hole as you apply pressure on the wrench.

TOLUENE is a harsh chemical that would probably penetrate it and dissolve the glue, but it will eat anything, plastic, painted, and everything else, so be extremely careful with it. Use a Q-tip. I would only use it as a last resort method and by someone with experience. IT CAN ABSORB INTO YOUR BODY THROUGH THE SKIN. It is listed as 80% high on the list as hazardous chemicals.
