Came yesterday. I tried them on indoors, but couldn't take them out today cuz it's raining all day.

They seem to fit well, but they definitely feel a lot different from the K2s I've owned. One thing is that they seem tight in the toe area. It's not that my big toe is touching the tip; it's more that it seems tight on top, so there isn't any wiggle room. Maybe they feel narrower in front? Is that how it should feel? Maybe it just takes some getting used to.

I also tried taking the insoles out. The insole actually has two parts -- a black part on top, and an additional pad underneath. Is the additional pad just for a tighter fit? Should I try taking it out?

It seems like I shouldn't lace these skates as tight as the K2s -- like the K2s are designed to be tied tighter and the Salomons are snugger fitting. Or maybe they're just too small? I don't know. Thoughts?

You can take that one pad out if you like, sure. Sounds as if your skates may be too small however. You may want to consider moving up a size or half size.

What size shoe do you wear? What size skates did you get?

As everyone's feet our different, there isn't an exact science to it. Sizing is pretty true, but as preference and the shape of feet are different, it is possible sizing may vary.

Well, I've probably skated a good 30 miles by now. Taking the underlayer of the insole definitely helped. It feels snug bug not uncomfortable in front. However, I am getting blistering on my inner heels. Do you have any recommendations for tightening/padding the heel area?

I think it takes time to get used to any skate. I'm finding the Salomon fit to be strange for my feet. Tight in the front half, but too long overall. But once I get the back a little tighter, I think they'll be great. The 84mm wheels take a little getting used to. But when the wind's not in front of you, you can definititely feel the speed difference. The lower cuff also is taking some getting used to. But once they're broken in, and I am as well, I think they're going to be a comfortable and fast ride.

But any recommendations for padding the heels would be appreciated.

You can try better socks or Sox in the Jox Sox. They work well.

As for the skate fitting funky, some people just won't feel great in a Salomon or a K2. Different feet require different fits. It should mold a bit to your foot and alleviate some of the things you mention. With good socks and skate time, hopefully it will take care of the rest.

Thanks for the post !
