Well I haven't updated anything on my skates in a while and I realized my wheels need replaced. I went to the sporting goods stores none of which carry any skate parts anymore because apparently rollerblading is not cool anymore. I figured oh well I'll just have to order some wheels. Then I realized my skates are really worn out and it would cost about $50 to replace the wheels I have. I noticed girls skates seem to be pretty popular now and the look nicer than the ones I remember (from over 5 yrs ago) I haven't been very impressed with girls skates and their durability in the past but I'm wondering if these newer skates are better in that regard and if so could anyone recommend something in particular. Right now I have a pair of Salomon DR70's and I love them is there anything on the market now that is comparable?

Those skates had a max wheel size of 80mm I believe but came with 76mm.
Nowadays, the lower end skates have the wheel sizes you are looking for. Not just intended for beginners, but those liking maneuverabilty, skating cones/course, or just in tighter spots where it's handy.
The K2 Athena is one and on closeout in the 2007 model. Has 78mm wheels but similar composite frames as th DR's had. There's also a 2008 model with different colors.
Differences being the boot is softer and there is less cuff than the DR's. You may find that they are a lot lighter and like them more. If wanting something with bigger wheels to get more speeds, then something like the Celena.
Hope this helps. Thanks for the post.

Thanks. I'm not really too particular about the wheel size mainly just the frame but faster is always good.
